The April Projects – Results

Remember the list I posted last month? Well, April is nearly through and I must say: I think it was rather optimistic of me to think I could do all that. Not that I feel any remorse, at least I tried. And I’ve got the perfect excuse: The beginning of the new semester, choosing lectures and courses, comparing time tables for cafeteria days with friends and the like really took its time. That’s also the reason why I’ve been rather quiet lately, but it all started well and I finally decided to stick with archeology through my B.A. as my major. The process that lead me there was a little bit like coming home, but that’s not for this post. I’ll cover that later, maybe.

What is for this post is the resumé on my list for April’s Projects!

  1. - pink-white striped wrap top: No. I actually do have the material, but I hadn’t the time. But it’ll make it’s way to May’s list, surely.
  2. - harem pants: No. Same as above.
  3. - cosplay outfit for RPC: YES! Actually that was the main project for April and would have taken up a list of its own. I’ll report to you after the convention, and hopefully I’ll have pictures to show you, too!
  4. - new ren fair outfit: No. But I didn’t make it to the fair anyway, so I had time to concentrate on the cosplay.
  5. - garden skirt: No. May list, as well.
  6. - painting for Teli: No. Not yet.
  7. - late birthday present for the Elfin One: No. I’m horrible at delivering birthday presents in time or at least only half a year after the day.
  8. - alter brown summer pants: Yes, even though without the step-by-step pictures.
  9. - RIPT pillow cover: Yes! Featured in the picture above. Not exhaustingly so, though, as I don’t want to take away the possibility of a real project post. ^^
  10. - plaque rat wife beater: No.

Result: 3/7

I should have split up the cosplay into several points, but overall I’m okay with the outcome of this first list. Let’s hope I’ll do better in May!

Interludium: Aww, a Blog Award!

My first one, actually!

Dear Wollmaus gave me a One Lovely Blog award, thank you so much!

With great awards comes great responsibility, and therefore there are two rules:

1. List seven things about yourself.
2. Give the award to as many other bloggers that you think deserve it.*

All right, seven things about me (that you maybe didn’t know yet):

1. I am latex and lactose intolerant, and I especially hate the latter.
2. All of my three favourite plush companions have a name starting with H.
3. I like to get things done in the morning. If I get myself out of the bed early enough to get started I can go all day, but if I miss that certain phase it’s rather likely that I do nothing at all.
4. I’m growing out my dyed hair at the moment as I’m curious to see how I look with my dishwater blond now (after about ten years of dye) and my henna red was getting too dark for me due to the several layers. I’m still using non-permanent colour mousse to keep it from showing, otherwise I’d be annoyed so soon by my roots that I’d dye again. I’ll probably give up and henna again in a month or two, but at least I’m trying. ^^
5. I don’t have a driver’s license and I don’t plan on getting one anytime soon. I prefer going by train most of the time anyway.
6. The nicest name calling I ever received was that I were “annoyingly over-sophisticated”. Ironically I got this from a person I deem much more sophisticated than myself.
7. I’m shy, but nobody believes me when I say so.

And now I’ll give this award to…

Zelde from Indigobirds, who really writes one lovely blog. I enjoy reading her musings every day (and am glad that she posts so regularly, too ^^).

A Colder Sun from Beyond the Veil, because she takes such pretty pictures and is the fragile, fairy-like creature I sometimes long to be but never will.

Sophia from Fräulein Jabberwocky’s, because I really like her style and we’ve got a lot of fashion interests in common, like Steampunk and Mori Girl, which I appreciate, of course.

Megan from Make Lovely, whose nerdy Lolita ways are simply awesome.

And that’s it, everyone else I could think of already had the award or I know that they don’t like to be tagged – which this award is, kind of.

- – - – - – -

* All right, it was 15 originally, but it’s rather hard to find enough people who like tags or haven’t had it already. I know that this award is rather like a tag, but when you’re forced to nominate so many people it’s more of a punishment than a reward. It’s a bit weird to write something like that, I’m aware.

Quick and Dirty

Yes. They still need a new home.

Maybe I sould admit my defeat. Maybe I should just keep them. Or maybe – and that’s what I’ll actually do – I’ll give them to the first person to comment on this post.

So hurry up, I want to ship these today!

Edit: There is already one comment below, but as it was a fun post by Centi the herbal set goes to comment no. 2!

Favourite Words in April ’12

  1. wordsmith. A far prettier word for writer.
  2. frittata. Because it reminds me of this video, which is hilarious in such an awesome way that it always makes my day better (and it tastes good, too. The frittata, not the video).
  3. chirruped. Which I noticed while reading The Wind In The Willows. And yes, definitely past tense.
  4. twirl. I guess I’ve got a thing for that t-w-i combination…
  5. Ludlow. A town in the Welsh Marches. I think I like words that end with -ow, too.

Earning No. 101 (and No. 28): The Sequel

Or: “Look, I made Food!”

Pancake day is long over (since March 8th, to be exact), but as we like pancakes here in Greenwhite Corner I made some yesterday.

I’m sorry about the photographs being rather dark and un-elaborate, but I was far to concerned not to eat the pancakes I was about to picture.

The recipe is a rather simple one:

For 2 people you’ll need:

- 250 g flour
- 1/2 l milk
- 4 eggs
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 pinch of sugar

Mix all ingredients, heat a frying pan (preferably a non-stick one) – I use maximum heat – and pour a ladle (one of the big ones used for soup) of the very liquid dough into the pan. Let it bake until the upper side turns a little more solid – you’ll know the moment -, then turn the pancake. You might try flipping it through the air, which takes some practise, but don’t be afraid of trying. The probably worst outcome is a crumbled pancake on the rim of your pan, and the main difficulty is daring to actually throw the pancake with enough force.
Bake until the other side is somewhere between golden and light brown, too, then shove the pancake onto a plate and cover it with a large bowl (or put it in a pre-heated oven) to keep it warm. Proceed alike with the rest of the dough.

One variant is to spread some grated cheese on one half of the pancake just after the flipping and then fold the other half over. I also spice my cheese pancakes with herbes de Provence, dried basil and a bit of salt and pepper.

This variant tastes surprisingly good with maple syrup.

My other favourite variant is to spread apple juice over the pancake and roll it up. Yummy.

I really hope you all have a wonderful weekend! ♥

10 Adorables in April

  1. The Human Equation, a concept album (which could also count as a musical) by dutch prog musician Ayreon that describes 20 days in the life of a coma patient, his inner monologues and his surroundings. I’m still not sure, but I think my favourite part is Day 7: Hope. Or maybe Day 2: Isolation? Or Day 12: Trauma? I don’t know.
  2. MousesHouses. Wonderfully whimsical scenes from what could be a more city-like pendant of Brambly Hedge.
  3. My Second Anniversary with the Scoundrel.
  4. La Sardina Camera. Since my camera broke last month (well, actually it miraculously started working again. I’ve got no clue what happened there, but I’m happy, of course) I’ve been looking for possible substitutes. La Sardina is not really an option, but I love the design, especially of this one, this and this.
  5. My Mother finally has an e-mail adress. Now I can simply send her my pictures instead of piling them up until I visit her again.
  6. Merlin, the BBC Wales series. Yes, it’s incredibly not historically correct, but it’s cute anyway.
  7. Herringbone Braids, because I finally learned how to do them.
  8. Blutsgeschwister, a German indie label with strong inspiration from traditional German clothing and awesome prints.
  9. Jellyfishes in Bottles. This may sound cruel but actually it’s just a really cute recycling tutorial.
  10. Getting Up and Dressed to the sound of La Vie en Rose.
