Things I Wear: In My Mother’s Shoes

Sartorial Saturday became Things I Wear (For now. I just felt like a new name for the category).

Rundown

- skirt: thrifted
- longsleeve: H&M
- tights: Falke
- shoes: Theresia (and borrowed from my mother)
- earrings: six
- necklace: selfmade
- sunglasses: six

Credit for the pictures goes to Jules. The aforementioned shoes are wonderful things from the early 90s made of suede with small elastics to fit better. My mother bought them for her work at a marionette theatre back then and wears them for special occasions now and then. When I met up with Jules yesterday, being in the Shire at the moment, I needed something on my feet that wasn’t duckfeet or worn-out fabric sneakers. Usually, my mother’s shoes are a hint too large for me, but these fitted perfectly well.

Sartorial Saturday: Beehive Girl

That title would have been so much more poignant if I had my hair fashioned into a beehive that day. Alas, I didn’t, but as these pictures were taken (by Jules, thanks for that!) on campus during freshmen acclimatisation week the buzzing building could count as a bee hive, too. Plus, bee-ish stripes.

Outfit Rundown:

- short longsleeve top: Oxfam
- wife beater: H&M
- shorts: pimkie
- tights & socks: H&M
- shoes: Dr. Martens

Accessoires Rundown:

- arm warmers: made by Jules
- necklace & lace choker: selfmade
- earrings: Africa festival
- buttons: gift from Bertie & some gift shop, I think
- bag: thrifted

Sartorial Saturday: University Girl

When you read this, I’m in Cologne and hopefully standing in line already for my ticket to the RPC (or Role Play Convention), Germany’s largest RPG con.

Nevertheless, I’m back again with a Sartorial Saturday and the hopes for more in the future. I found that there are several places on campus with good spots for the self-timer and enough light to take photos, so maybe I’ll be able to stick to it this time. ^^

Outfit Rundown:
- T-shirt: C&A
- trousers: Orsay
- shoes: Waschbär

It’s a rather simple look, but I love how much I can do with accessoires here. These linen trousers are a favourite pair of mine, by the way, and overall is this the kind of outfit you find me most often with lately. It’s not that I don’t like Lolita and Mori anymore, I just have to do something about my wardrobe. ^^

Accessoires Rundown:
- bag: long time ago in a punk shop far, far away…
- rubber wristbands: Emilie Autumn merchandise
- black creole/ black and silver stud: Bijou Brigitte/ christmas marke stall, probably
- Union Jack badge: Accessorize
- coral necklace: heirloom, antique
- plastic bird needle: heirloom, vintage
- hair band (sadly not really visible, but blue tartan): selfmade from a strip of fabric

Sartorial Saturday: Back on Track & In Time

The alternative title I had in mind was “Watson Girl”. The new Sherlock Holmes picture is to start on Thursday before Christmas here in Germany, and I’m really looking forward to it!
I also wore this yesterday for the annual Pretend to be a Time Traveller Day, but I think it’s going to be one of my favourite everyday outfits for this winter, anyway.

Outfit Rundown:
- coat (below): Pimkie
- longsleeve: H&M
- T-shirt: Takko
- waistcoat: handed down (formerly C&A, I think)
- skirt: self-made
- tights: drug store
- gaiters: self-made
- shoes: Hanwag

Accessoires Rundown:
- hat: H&M (I think that’s going to be my new every day hat, I love it! Just bower-like enough for my first fulfilled Daring Deed from the new list!)
- bag: thrifted
- acorn necklace: self-made
- fork bracelet: artisan fair
- club/ ornament stud: Bijou Brigitte/ probably some Christmas market stall

I look a bit tired in this ambience shot, and I even curled out my face in the actual outfit picture because of the massive circles beneath my eyes, but I assure you that I’m well. Just a bit busy at the moment.
Anyway, I really like the spot where I took the pictures. It’s rather quiet there, with a beautiful view on the small lake and this giant willow (and it has a statue in just the right angle and height for self-timing), it’s not too far from my house, and you’re probably going to see it more often on outfit snaps in the near future.

P.S.: There’s still time to take part in my recent giveaway, if you’d like some of my illustrations, don’t forget to enter!

Sartorial Saturday: Green & Black Edition

Green and black were my favourite colours to work with when I still played Magic: The Gathering. Not to mention that they are two of my all-time favourite colours. Actually I wanted to show you the awesome swap gifts I got recently, too (they match in colour), but I save them for a post after I mailed my swap gift, too.

Oh, and as you can see I finally found a spot in our flat to take outfit pictures at! I’ve got to work on the lighting, though…

I had to take an extra picture of my shoes, if I’m taking the pictures on this spot at the door via self timer they are rather… let’s face it, they are cut off.

Outfit Rundown:
- kerchief: not trackable anymore
- T-shirt: Takko
- longsleeve: Pimkie
- skirt: H&M
- tights: Waschbär
- rain boots: H&M

Accessoires Rundown:
- studs: Claire’s
- necklace: ???

This is one of my “typical” every day outfits, rather comfy but not without personal style. The key pieces in this case are the rain boots – I don’t wear them often, but I love the gaphical yet sweet look about them.

Sartorial Saturday: 20s meets Mori meets Me

Well, it’s not particularly 20s, but the dress from today’s outfit is the one I also wore to the Bohème Sauvage last May. It’s also not particularly mori, either, but the accessoires qualify. The combination and rest of the outfit is simply me.

Outfit Rundown:
- bodice: Orsay
- dress: Promod
- longsleeve: H&M
- tights: drugstore
- socks: presumably some relative
- shoes: cropped-off Undercover steel toes

I just couldn't get those colours right... Actually the red is much darker and less pink...

Accessoires Rundown:
- cap: artisan’s fair
- fork bracelet: artisan’s fair
- earrings: Bijou Brigitte
- necklace: handed down from my mother
- gloves (not in the pictures): Waschbär (they were dark red, to match the cap)

I look a little bit more tired than usual in this picture, please excuse that. My sleep hasn’t been exactly fitful, but I’m still in my holidays rhythm, so I stay up a little too long and have to rise for university rather early nevertheless. Most of the time this works quite well, but on weekends it shows a little. ^^

Sartorial Saturday: Street Style

I’ve got the very bad habit to go and take the pictures for this weekly feature on Saturday just before sunset. Today I couldn’t take any that were just right, so I made a quick sketch of what I wore today. Not only does this match the outfit, but I also liked it pretty well.

Outfit Rundown:
- beret: H&M
- short bodice: thrift shop
- long sleeve: H&M
- skirt: self-made
- tights: some green fashion shop
- gaiters: swap gift by freudenkind
- shoes: cropped-off Undercover steel toes

beret and gaiters for better outfit imagination

Accessoire Rundown:
- amber necklace: heirloom
- amber sun stud/ silver creole hoop: Waschbär/ found

Sartorial Sunday: One Day Late

Due to this week’s schedule I’m a little late with my weekly feature. I had to take the photos today as I left in a hurry and returned when it was already dark when I wore this outfit on several occasions. But the alliteration stays, so that’s okay.

This is an outfit I actually wore twice this week (and today), the first time to the fan meet-up with Steampunk author Gail Carriger of Parasol Protectorate fame (more about this great book series in a post of its own) on Tuesday and a second one for the book fair convention yesterday.

Outfit Rundown:
- blouse: once-upon-a-time H&M
- bodice: probably some LARP shop
- trousers: Takko, altered by me
- shoes: cropped-off Undercover steel toes
- coat: Pimkie (changed buttons)
- scarf: handed down
- fingerless gloves (unseen): local shepherd

Accessoires Rundown:
- watch pendant: Promod
- bell earring/ acorn stud: self-made/ Accessorize
- hair clips: H&M

close-up of the clock face appliqués on my trousers

This is pretty much the city look I wrote about in my last post, and I love it. It’s quite influenced by my time in Frankfurt, but picturesque and playful enough for Marburg, too. When I wear something like this I feel like nothing in the world can stop me. I feel savvy, good-looking (rather than pretty), strong, I’ll-get-my-will-and-you-know-it like. I guess the biggest part of this awesome feeling comes from trousers and coat, the trousers make my legs appear quite long (and I’ve been assured that my back looks quite good in them, too) – just like my Savate sports trousers -, and the coat has something rather professional about it, as if it were a little (and more practical) sibling to the expensive woolen coats all the business people in my old city wear (I wear my coats open most of the time, I guess I just like the dramatic effect of them swinging).

I also think that this last part will become a regular part of the Sartorial Saturday, it’s just such an interesting thing how different outfits can make us feel like different persons, or parts of our personalities, at least.

Sartorial Saturday: Mad Hatter Day

Of course it’s Mad Hatter Day.

Yes, I know my petticoat is showing (It ripped, I fear. Again.). I didn't know then, though...

Outfit Rundown:
- tricorn hat: Ludwigsburg palace souvenir shop
- blouse: H&M
- T-shirt: self-made
- skirt: self-made
- tights: green clothing shop
- lacy socks: H&M
- shoes: Danish Duckfeet

Accessoires Rundown:
- umbrella (see outfit picture): Lisbeth Dahl
- rocking horse necklace: I am
- club stud/ teapot earring: Bijou Brigitte/ Claire’s
- hair ribbon (see below): self-made with Coppelius button
- fork bracelet (not pictured): artisan’s fair

Thanks to Imp for taking these pictures! :)

Sartorial Saturday: Sometimes You Don’t

You don’t find the right outfit, you don’t get the right location, you don’t have the nerve to search the whole town for a quiet place to use your self-timer, you don’t like how you look anyway.

But then, just when you’re tired and want to simply use the blurry pictures you took in a hurry, a little bit of fairy tale happens and you find that wonderful old armchair right in front of your house at the edge of the world.
This may not be a perfect Sartorial Saturday, but it has heart and soul and captures my life in a fairy tale town quite perfectly. It should be like this more often.

Outfit Rundown:

- T-Shirt: C&A
- longsleeve: H&M
- skirt: self-made
- tights: drugstore
- shoes: Danish Duckfeet
- scarf (not pictured): C&A
- fingerless gloves: sheep farm nearby

Accessoires Rundown:

- flower hairclip: self-made by Teli
- ring necklace: vintage (from my mother)
- earrings (bug and creole): H&M and Bijou Brigitte

Thanks to Scoundrel for turning up when I was about to give up and for taking these wonderfully whimsical pictures.

Sadly my small chamber is already stuffed so I couldn’t take this pretty piece of furniture in, but as I know my town it’ll give me another one when the time and space is right.

Anybody need a new chair?
