Something British, Something Pink, Something Giant and Something Yet Unknown

Jules’s stayed over the weekend, and as it always happens our meeting up in Frankfurt ended up being a shopping tour.

Something British: When we noticed that it was Friday we took a little trip to the stock exchange where the Schiller market takes place once a week. There’s that one market stall that sells British imports, mainly food, and it’s traditional for us to stop by and get some Cadbury chocolate. The stickers and badge are from Accessorize, I figured that a Union Jack heart would make a nice addition to my badge collection.

Something Pink: I was rather shocked when I realised that I had NO rose-coloured nail polish! Not that I wear anything else than clear on a regular basis, but it’s a point of principle. Why I actually bought fabric tape is a conundrum to me, but maybe it will be involved in the “Something Yet Unknown” project.

Something Giant: I already own the mermaid and dragon parts of this series and it was down to about a quarter of the original price. Even though Jules cringed a little when he had to let me go into a book store (he always fears that he has to spend the rest of the day there if I make it inside) I had to buy it.

Something Unknown: A large fabric sticker of sage green colour (sadly the photograph didn’t really get it right) and two faux leather labels. You may now make an educated guess about the purpose of these things.

New Stuff

The post title might be a bit prosaic, but I’ll make up for that with the pictures I took of said new stuff.
Recently I made an order at Lederkram.de together with Bambi, Teli and another friend of mine, Konstantin (who’s currently in Ireland and hence hasn’t got his things yet).

I needed some leather for one or two projects to come, and Lederkram conveniently sells their leather scraps by the kilo. Bigger scraps than about the size of my hand would have been better and easier to work with, but it’s fine this way, too.

To satisfy my inner magpie – most of us have one, I think, but longing for different things, maybe – I also got two new pendants. The first one is a citrine crystal, not a good one, mind you, but it’s pretty and now it’s mine.

The other one is a hare trinity (or simply “three hares”, but I also like the term “Tinner’s Rabbits”). While I could go on now about what it means to me I’ll just state that I like it in an aesthetic way and it’s the thing tied around my neck most often at the moment.

And I also made a purchase at promod lately, as I needed a blouse to wear to Jules’ show as well as just because I liked it. It’s ivory coloured and still a little crumpled from being in my backpack, but I was too eager to write this post to iron it before I took the pictures.

I love the details in this collection. I’ve got several pieces in my wardrobe now and I’m stunned again every time when I look at them.

Moss and Brass – Mori Accessoires Shopping

Jules and I haven’t done much together lately. Which actually means the last six months. We’re both very busy with school and as he’s in a long-distance relationship he visits his prince charming rather than me when in Marburg. Which is quite understandable, but also a little bit irksome.

Anyway, we decided to do something about this, and so we didn’t only spend the Saturday together, but also went shopping in Frankfurt the day before. The title of this post refers to the colours that are found most often in my recent Friday purchases.

Spherical earrings with a little *bling*. I really like the shape and the small ornaments, and I’ll definitely wear them for Christmas (well, according to my habits, I’ll wear only one of them). ^^

One can never call enough lockets their own. I think I’ll put old pictures of my grandparents in there… they’ll always be with me that way.
It has something a little bit Art Nouveau to it, and I think the little birds are adorable. Plus, I love enamel, even though it’s a little more blue than in reality, actually it’s some kind of mint green.

Socks with 13% Angora wool. They are sooo soft! Black is a colour I always need new things in, and the red is perfectly rose-hip-ish.

I don’t buy make-up that often, but I thought I could use some variety, after all… There are two colours of nail polish, one dark taupe as a basic and one very, very glittery for fancier days. The little box is H&M’s Sweet Chai eau de toilette, and I fear I bought it more for the great design’s sake (Art Nouveau again!) than for the scent, which is also very nice. The last piece in this picture is a four-colours eye shadow palette with very earthy tones that are great for a restrained Mori Girl or Classic Lolita make-up.

Another necklace, again with the problem that the photo doesn’t reflect the green tint of the stone right. Again, there’s a little Art Nouveau influence, and I love the amount of chains.

Again, not really the right colour. It’s a deep, dusty moss green, and maybe I’ll catch the right tint one day. What this is? It’s a short feather scarf, a real piece for the soul when I’m not well (touching something soft actually helps). I think it’ll look great with Mori or Dolly Kei…

The last piece is a piece I’ll most likely wear to a Bohéme Sauvage some day. It just looks like something right from the twenties, rather Mary Pickford’s than Clara Bow’s taste (again, the picture is a little too blue-ish. *sigh*).

I call it a Princess Day, Others might call it Madness

The madness part would likely come from people who don’t know what to do with huge amounts of fabric in one colour.

Yesterday Jules and I had our obligatory “girls day” downtown as I was visiting my mother and he happened to be in town, too. Our main reason to meet was to go to the remaining stock sale at our favourite fabrics store which is, in fact, only at the first Saturday of every month, and it’s a great coincidence that we found one of those without Jules or me being out-of-town.

When we first entered, we were both a little bit disappointed. None of us actually knew what we had expected, but this wasn’t it. But after half an hour of searching through incredible 80s and 90s stock, cheap satin and not really pretty lacy curtains, we both found the treasures that were hidden beneath the horrible.

Jules with his bright tulle (matching his shirt!), some weird snake-ish embossed caravan print fabric and something very stretchy with silver clouds on it.

And that's me with the fabric I hunted down.

I would have loved to take along some more of the muted coloured cotton bales with me, and surely Jules felt like this about the prettily patterned linings and futuristic metallics, but we went by bus and had to carry things home afterwards, so we left with only three bales on Jules and two on my account. All right, and we took in some zippers and buttons, too. Together, we had over 13 kilo of fabric. I know that because the prices were made by the kilo, and this is why I was able to get such amounts, anyway. Awesome.

That’s one bale of changing dark rose madder and one of twill woven light rose-leaf yellow cotton from Brussels, together with some zippers and old-fashioned buttons.
I’ve got plans for the fabrics, but I will only announce the new dress for Renaissance fairs so far as the rest isn’t planned out yet.

After we had brought our prey to Jules home wich is luckily right at the final bus station downtown we went to get some lunch – both of us hadn’t had real breakfast before we went to the fabric store.
We ended up with sushi – it’s kind of traditional with us.

And afterwards we went shopping. The thing is, I don’t really like shopping unless it’s with Jules. We perfectly know each other’s taste and therefore he finds things that I’d love and vice versa. We share enough similarities to not quarrel all the time and have got enough diversities – that we respect, that’s a very important part there – to not get bored. Add a good sense and portion of humor, and you’ve got the perfect shopping spree.

This is what I ended up with:

Sweets. I don’t know how, but it’s always sweets. This time it was jelly beans and strawberry-flavoured red liquorice at the same shop where Jules found his perfect-for-him new school bag.

A t-shirt. I always feel I’ve got nothing to wear (or at least nothing that’s not utterly boring), but during the holidays this will hopefully change! But at least I’ve got another t-shirt now.

A necklace. With a rocking-horse pendant. It looks so incredibly old-fashioned and cute! I’m tempted to build a whole outfit around it.

And finally: A lacy waistcoat. It’s from a small boutique I spotted when I drove into town on Friday and instantly dragged Jules there when we were back from his home. It was stuffed with things I’d call mori, and I would have bought everything in there if I hadn’t known that I wouldn’t wear it on a daily basis or, worst case, never. But I did find this wonderful lace thing and hardly believed it fitted me. But it did, and so I took it home.

Don’t worry, as soon as the holidays start there will be more interesting postings again, too (Crafting! And sewing! And adventures!). But until then I still have one exam and two presentations. Wish me luck!

Back from the City

I’ve been to Frankfurt again. Originally it was to switch my armoire from the unstable black wire-with-curtains light model to a smaller dark wooden type from the first half of the last century that kept catching dust in my mother’s basement. But as my father decided that if we went to get the closet on Saturday I could as well come with him on Thursday when he drove home from Marburg anyway, I had one and a half day to spend in the big city, too.

One of the worst things about my beloved fairy tale town is the lack of shopping opportunities. Even though I’m not much of a hoarder of clothes and accessoires I love to go window-shopping. Marburg sadly has only one not-so-unique H&M and neither Claire’s nor Accessorize, so I was thrilled to learn that in Frankfurt even a second of the latter had opened during the last months!

And this is (part of) what I brought back:

A cute tea-pot-shaped earring. Actually it’s a pair, but as I seldom wear two of the same pair I decided to use one of this cute tea pots to make a charm or necklace. The only thing I dislike is the harsh contrast of the muted pastel of the charm and the bright red of the ribbon above it, so I think I’m going to change it.

Another pair of earrings. They had a 3-for-the-price-of-2 sale at Claire’s, and I couldn’t resist! And yes, it’s true, I love chocolate! I think these will be great for the attire for my planned pâtissier Steampunk LARP character. When I told Jules I suggested that maybe the matching brooch would be nice for his Dorian Siskins (a character who’s a chocolatier, too). Even though it would be quite weird if two sworn enemies wore matching jewelery…

The last of the tree pairs is shaped like carved roses. Aren’t they beautiful? And they’re matching my wearable rose bouquets! The small spoon is new, too, to always carry it in my bags if I feel the urge to get me some mousse au chocolat or something similar.

My last purchase was a set of paper napkins with this really elaborate print of antique cutlery drawings, just in case I’ve got to hold a tea party some day. :)

Well, it was really nice to visit my old city again and I’m looking forward to April when I’m able to do this more often again due to my new university ticket. Oh, and I got me another something, too, but I think that’s worth a post of its own.

Rose Bouqets made of Fabric

Last week I went shopping with Bambi for some simple T-shirts or longsleeves. I couldn’t find what I looked for and was about to leave, when I decided to check the accessoires section on my way out, where I found an old rose-coloured dream.

Isn’t the pattern of this shawl wonderful? The fabric is sheer, flowing muslin that would flatter any Jane Austen heroine. I can’t wait to wear it in a decent Lolita or Mori Girl co-ordinate, but it also fits my black everyday garments.

The other wearable roses grew on the even further way out, in the children’s section. They catched my eye and I was really disappointed that there were no such pieces at the women’s section. But then I plucked up courage and decided to try it on in the largest size they had – and it fit and was suitable!

The print is really good and looks like it will survive several years of washing, it has a hood, pockets and thumb holes and adds a cute flair to my everyday attire, just like the shawl.

I beg your pardon for the somewhat blurry pictures, but the lighting conditions were kind of bad.
