Elder Flower Fairy

Poem and Picture by Cicely Mary Barker

When the days have grown in length,
When the sun has greater power,
Shining in his noonday strength;
When the Elder Tree’s in flower;
When each shady kind of place
By the stream and up the lane,
Shows its mass of creamy lace –
Summer’s really come again!

One of my 101 daring deeds is to learn ten flower fairy poems by heart, so here’s the first one that fits perfectly into the season. I’ll try to make some elderflower in pancake dough this weekend, maybe I should get some syrup, too.

Any thoughts?
