Favourite Words in January

  1. hierarchy. Noun, English. A system of ranks. I like words with -archy endings.
  2. imbecile. Adjective/noun, English. A (nowadays) rather fancy insult, implying stupidity and limited mental capacity. It’s not very nice, but the word is pretty.
  3. Foxglove. Proper name, English. Common name of the flower digitalis.
  4. résisdanse. Neologism, French. Recombined from résistance and danse, obviously.
  5. penultimate. Adjective, English. The second to last.
