(Life) Style Tips in June

JuneTips“I wonder what it would be like to live in a world where it was always June.”
L. M. Montgomery, Anne of the Island

Star freckles made from glitter or confetti lend a cute, magical touch to your everyday look. You can get all kinds of star confetti at the craft store or party supply shop, pastel, gold, silver or colourful. I glue mine on with the same spirit gum as my elf ears but fake lash glue should work just as well.

Start making your own ice cream and try out all the flavours you won’t get at the gelateria. I suggest peach and honey, lavender, rosemary-apple or something completely off like mint combined with seaweed. If you (just like me) don’t have an ice machine of your own there are ways to make it without one, as well (here are some tutorials to get you started: 1 | 2 | 3).

Life is like an ice-cream cone, you have to lick it one day at a time.
― Charles M. Schulz

Speaking of ice cream I think June is the perfect month for Ice Cream Solids in your wardrobe. Think cool mints, peachy pinks or lemon sherbert yellow, or a strangely creamy version of blueish black. These colours are most reminiscent of gelato when they’re not super shiny, and broad candy stripes help to evoke to picture of an old-fashioned soda-and-ice-cream shop. Top off with fruit or sprinkle-like accessories or sweets-themed (preferably melting chocolate) items.

Find a jean jacket – thrifted, from your closet or from the store, they’re trendy right now anyway – and decorate it! Dye it, paint it, embroider it – or just go and hunt down the cutest, weirdest or coolest patches and pins you can find for the look that you want. I found a fantastic jacket in the thrift store just last month but I might eventually need a second one to realise all of my plans…

The Magical Girl is a special type of superhero, one that will take all things traditionally feminine and stab evil through the face with it.
— Alex Henderson, Using Femininity & Friendship to Battle Evil

In the spirit of Mahou ShouJune, assign yourself a Magical Girl (in this case a gender-neutral term) persona. Pick your own theme, colour scheme and look for a transformation trinket. Watch classics like Sailor Moon or Card Captor Sakura for inspiration – or my current silly favourite, Happy Kiss.
