UFO Friday

After supplying my maternal family with quilts I’m finally making one for myself! I love diamond patterns so it was clear from the start that I wanted a diamond quilt. I was also inspired by the quilt in a painting which I can’t seem to find again no matter how much I search the web – but I believe it was tagged as a William Morris painting. The quilt seemed rather chaotic in nature, with many different patterns and diamonds going off in all possible directions rather than being neatly arranged, and of course that spoke to me.
In this project I’m finally using some scraps of fabric that I always held sacred, that I didn’t want to use for just any project. So far it has several velvets, silk from one of my ball gowns and a vintage children’s fabric, among others.

And in the true spirit of sustainability I’m using the scraps of my quilt diamonds (I need about 400 of them, I’m currently at 130) to stuff this draught catcher for our kitchen made from the most colourful socks Scoundrel could find at the thrift shop. It’s looking a bit phallic at the moment, we admit, but hopefully it will turn into a colourful snake to shield us from the cold within the next few weeks of projects. I’ll keep you posted.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

  1. I can’t wait to see more of the quilt!
As for the draught stopper, I think they all look like that! Mine is one that I bought from a craft market, it was labelled “one-eyed trouser snake”. I couldn’t resist.

Any thoughts?
